Saturday, April 17
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Picnic Day is the largest student-run event in the United States and is the annual Open House for the University of California, Davis. This hallmark event has been designed to showcase and celebrate the richness of campus life, the diverse achievements of UC Davis students, staff and faculty to provide a day of education, information and entertainment to all who attend.
This year Shields Library will host a Picnic Day Open House from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Come and enjoy a self-guided tour of the Library, including a viewing of the art deco-styled Main Reading Room and extensive art on display.
Special Collections will have an exhibit in the main lobby entitled "A Woman's Place", An Exhibit on the History of the Women's Rights Movement. The exhibit features books, pamphlets, and other documents and ephemera from the Women's History Collection and other research collections held in the Library's Special Collections Department. Items on exhibit include 18th, 19th, and 20th century publications documenting the growth and development of the women's rights movement.
The Map Collection will have an exhibit in the main lobby featuring maps of the UC Davis campus covering its history over the last century, and new additions to the Biological Sciences will be displayed.
