Shields Library Debuts New Library Services, Fall Quarter, 2009
Beginning Fall Quarter, 2009 the Shields Library will implement new trial services designed to meet the needs of our students, faculty and staff.
General Reference Desk
A General Reference Desk is now located on the 2nd Floor and will provide integrated basic reference service.
- Monday - Friday, 9am - 6pm
- Sunday, 1 - 5pm (Oct 11 - Nov 22)

Subject specialist librarians (https://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/ul/about/directories/subjspec.php) will continue to offer individual appointments for students and faculty needing in depth reference and library research consultations
The Information Desk in Shields Library will feature a kiosk that provides answers to the most commonly asked informational and directional queries. Students, faculty, and staff with reference questions will be directed to the General Reference Desk on the 2nd floor (Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm) and to the new 24/7 Chat Reference service all other times. Circulation Desk staff will answer basic questions evenings and weekends.
Located on the Lower Level of Shields Library. A service for lower division undergraduates, this is a program designed to help students with research for term paper assignments and projects. Students can sign up for a 30 minute appointment through the Library Instruction web page (https://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/forms/researchstart/)
Appointments will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from noon-4pm, October 13-November 25.
