How to Set Up Connection - Step A. Set Your Browser to Use the Proxy Service
Internet Explorer (Windows, DSL): Two Procedures

Procedure 1: Internet Service Provider settings

  1. Select (by clicking) the appropriate item related to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) in the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings" list.   4. Enter the following URL into the field labeled "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL":
      http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/proxy/pacserve

    WARNING: Avoid common mistakes.

    • When using Copy and Paste to enter the URL, be sure there is NO space in front of the http://
    • Do not omit the http:// in the URL. It is necessary.

  5. Remove checkmarks from "Automatically detect settings" (if checked) and then click the button labeled "OK". Windows DSL screenshot - showing removal of checkmarks from automatically detect settings.

Procedure 2: LAN Settings procedure is also required.

  3. Enter the following URL into the field labeled "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL":
      http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/proxy/pacserve
