There is no single database that exclusively and exhaustively tracks the literature in Asian-American Studies. This means researchers must use a constellation of bibliographic sources, ranging from reference lists in books to databases tracking the humanities and social sciences. Be careful to read the scope of the databases listed below.

Records added after 1974 contain in-depth and nonevaluative abstracts of journal articles.

The Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) is a multidisciplinary database covering the journal literature of the social sciences. It is particularly suited to trace citations to authors and articles across publications. It indexes 1,700 journals spanning 50 disciplines, as well as covering individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals.

This is the electronic continuation of Groiler's four volume print version of Encyclopedia of American Studies (EAS) It is published online by Johns Hopkins Press. Like its predecessor, it provides topical entries on the transdisciplinary field of American Studies, from Hinduism to Hip Hop, from Television to Think Tanks. Its scholarly survey articles, which cover a deep range of social cultural topics, are furnished with key references to further reading. The editorial advisory board to this publication is appointed by the American Studies Association.

A free on-line resource about the history of the Japanese American WWII exclusion and incarceration experience. The Densho Encyclopedia covers key concepts, people, events, and organizations that played a role in the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The reviewed articles are written by a wide range of contributors, and are enhanced with photos, documents and video drawn from Densho's digital archives and other sources.

There are 10,000 digital images complemented by 20,000 pages of electronic transcriptions documenting the experience of Japanese Americans in World War II internment camps.

The Chinese in California, 1850-1925 illustrates nineteenth and early twentieth century Chinese immigration to California through about 8,000 images and pages of primary source materials. Included are photographs, original art, cartoons and other illustrations; letters, excerpts from diaries, business records, and legal documents; as well as pamphlets, broadsides, speeches, sheet music, and other printed matter. These documents describe the experiences of Chinese immigrants in California, including the nature of inter-ethnic tensions.

The Virtual Oral/Aural History Archive of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). This site provides access to the full audio recordings of oral histories that have been deposited in Special Collections of the CSULB Library - enabling you, the user, to hear the voice, pitch, and rhythm of the narrations as well as the emotions these convey. You will hear the actual spoken words of oral history narrators, rather than seeing a written version of them in the form of a transcript. The collection is strong in Asian American History, Labor History, Chicano/a History, South Asian History and the Music and general local history of Southern California and Long Beach.
