Springer Journals

The Springer ejournals package consists of subscribed and unsubscribed content. UC libraries pay for subscribed content in order to ensure perpetual rights and to be included in Next Generation MELVYL, campus online catalogs, and UC elinks full-text option. Up to now, Springer does allow access to unsubscribed content, but does not allow perpetual rights to those titles. In order to reduce the cost of the 2011-2012 ejournals package, UC had to select titles for which UC desired perpetual rights beginning in 2011. Campus core niche research area titles were added when campuses were willing and able to pay for the perpetual rights. For a list of all UC accessible titles today, consult the Springer website (http://www.springerpub.com/products/journals).

For the 2011 calendar year, 156 subscribed titles were not renewed in the 2011-2012 Springer ejournals agreement package. These titles will no longer have perpetual rights and will be placed into the Springer "unsubscribed" category. UC faculty, staff, and students have online access to the titles in the "unsubscribed" category, but not consistently. The total number of "canceled" Springer subscribed and unsubscribed titles is 376.

We need your assistance to identify which of the 2011 newly added unsubscribed titles should be considered for addition as subscribed titles when the Springer package is renegotiated in 2012.
