Transfer
- In EndNote library, select citations to be transferred.
-
To format citations, in MSWord, go to Tools > EndNote X2 > Format
Bibliography. (EndNote X2 must appear in this location to proceed.
If not, it probably has not been installed correctly.)
-
Click Browse to select from 2500 output styles
-
Place cursor in text where citations go and in MSWord go to
Tools > EndNote X2 > Insert Selected Citations
Edit
Note: You cannot(!) edit citations directly with your word processor. The citations are controlled by a layer of programming called "Field Codes" which will erase your changes when the document is saved. Changes can only be made through EndNote tools in two forms: editing citations and removing field codes.
-
In MSWord, go to Tools > EndNote X2 > Edit Citations
which will bring up a dialog box.
- Note that the dialog box applies only to in-text and footnote citations, not to the final bibliography.
- The dialog box permits only three types of changes: adding a prefix, adding a suffix, or adding a page number.
Remove Field Codes
-
To remove field codes, go to Tools > EndNote X2 > Remove Field
Codes.
- Eliminating field codes allows manual changes from the word processor. BUT, it will disable EndNote from adding citations in a way that is not reversible. Once gone, the field codes cannot be restored. It is recommended that all citations from EndNote should be added for the entire document. Then, the field codes should be removed from a copy.
