- This is good selective list mostly of European Art websites. It is organized chronologically a covers everything from Prehistory through the 20th century.

- The gateway to art, design, architecture & media information on the Internet--Though it hasn't been updated in a couple of years, this is still a good site. It's unusual in that the websites it contains are selected and cataloged according to library cataloging rules.

- The Union List of Artists Names(ULAN)
- This growing list is one of a series of "vocabularies" developed by the Getty Vocabulary Program. It provides important contextual information on the artists listed
- World Wide Art Resources
- This is a gateway site for many aspects of the art trade, including information on contemporary artists as well as news on current exhibitions
- AskArt
- This site includes an extensive alphabetical list of American Artists of all periods. Entries may include brief biographies and bibliographies, as well as information on museum holdings, and recent sale prices. Much of this is free, more is available to subscribers
- Artcyclopedia
- This searchable database provides "references to sites on the World Wide Web where artists' works can be viewed online." It further limits itself to artists whose work is shown in museums with an emphasis on twentieth century painting and sculpture. In addition to images it provides links to biographical, bibliographical and sales information. However, some of that material is available by subscription only
- Gallery of Visual Artists
- This is an list of working artists organized alphabetically, or by style, medium or subject. It is part of the ArtNetwork website

- World Wide Art Resources--This is a gateway site for many aspects of the art trade, including information on contemporary artists as well as news on current exhibitions

- This company describes itself as "the place to buy, sell and research fine art online." Its website provides news; lists of artists; directories of galleries, and museums; auction prices; and a range of resources for researching individual artists. Some of its services are free, others are by individual subscription only

Art Image Collections
- Prints and Photographs Online Catalog of the Library of Congress
- This catalog covers part of the rich and varied collection held by the Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs division.Specifically, it includes "descriptions of selected single images cataloged since 1984 and groups of images cataloged since 1986." Many entries include digitized images
- Art Images for College Teaching (AICT)
- This is a non-profit project to make art images available for teaching purposes. It follows the standard western art survey with sections on the following periods: Ancient; Medieval; Renaissance and Baroque; 18th-20th Century. It also contains images of PreContact Meso- and North American art
