Computers

The Blaisdell Medical Library has a Computer Laboratory with twelve (12) Dell workstations; a digital projector/VCR; a viewing screen and a whiteboard. Each work station is connected to an HP laser printer. A schedule of reservations will be posted daily at the entrance to the Lab.

The Carlson Health Sciences Library has a Computer Laboratory with ten (10) Dell workstations; a viewing screen and a whiteboard. The Dell PC workstations are connected to an HP laser printer in the public area of the library. A schedule of reservations is kept at the Reserves desk.

Who may use the labs?

Graduate students, housestaff, staff and faculty of the UCD Medical Center, the School of Medicine or the School of Veterinary Medicine or related biomedical fields who possess a valid library card or badge are given priority. Others may use the lab if space is available, but may be asked to surrender their place to a priority user.

Reservations

Individuals reserving the Lab for instructional purposes should do so two weeks in advance of the class' scheduled date. Any software that needs to be mounted on the server or on the hard drives must be submitted no later than two weeks in advance. Instructors are responsible for obtaining all licenses and permissions to use specific software. Library staff will not be available to serve as proctors or classroom assistants. Software

PC computers in both labs have Internet access and the Microsoft Office programs. At the Carlson Health Sciences Library, LTNTY66 is loaded as well as Winspirs which can be used to access CABI and Zoological Record.

Printing

At each library, print jobs are sent to a public printer. You can retrieve your printout using an Taylor Made copy card. You will need to give the number of your workstation, e. g. HSLLAB01, in order to print out your job. The cost is 10 cents per page.

Personal Laptops

If you prefer to use your own laptop computer, both libraries offer DHCP (http://netaccess.ucdavis.edu/) internet access. If you have registered your laptop network card with campus IT, you may log on with DHCP. Alternatively, you may check out an internet connection kit from the desk. Click on the link for more details about DHCP. There are currently Ports in and around the study rooms at the Carlson Health Sciences Library. These ports have restricted access. Access to the public printers is not available from DHCP port connections.

In addition to the Lab workstations and DHCP, both libraries have public terminals available that allow Internet and email access.
