Lending Services
The Carlson Health Sciences (HSL) and Blaisdell Medical (BML) Libraries provide photocopies and returnable loans to other libraries. All medical, academic, public, government, research and corporate libraries are eligible. The combined collections consist of medical- and veterinary-related material. The service is provided according to the provisions of national and international interlibrary loan codes.

Requests may be submitted via Docline and OCLC. ALA and IFLA forms are also accepted.

Request Processing
Our goal is to have your request processed and filled within 3-5 business days of receipt.
It is a good idea to allow at least 1 to 3 weeks for ILL items to arrive, especially for materials sent USPS; some requests may arrive sooner.
Every attempt will be made to fill all orders, but delivery cannot be guaranteed since materials are occasionally in use or missing. Incomplete or inaccurate citations may delay processing. Requests must comply with current United States copyright law.
Rush Orders
It is possible to place rush orders. Rush requests will be processed within 24-hours of receipt. Rush requests noted "PATIENT CARE EMERGENCY" will be processed immediately. To expedite handling of these requests, please phone the lending library to notify staff of the rush.

- Books and media materials may be sent via USPS, FedEx or Tricor as requested.
- Non-returnables
- Journal articles and book chapters may be sent via ARIEL, Email, FAX, USPS, FedEx or Tricor (UC, CSU, Stanford only) as requested. Our default delivery method is ARIEL.
ILL Lending Costs and Payments
Borrowers not billed through Docline EFTS or OCLC IFM will be invoiced monthly. Invoices should be paid by check or bank draft, U.S. dollars preferred.

- Base copy charge is per 30 pages for electronic delivery or per 50 pages for mail/courier delivery.
- 24-hour turnaround on Rush requests; 4-hour turnaround on urgent Patient Care requests.
- Special Handling fee is charged for processing courier delivery and loans shipped outside of the U.S. In addition, borrower is responsible for any courier fees. Submit FedEx account number when placing the request.
- Loans are not made to document delivery vendors.
