Library of Congress Map Collections
- The focus of Map Collections is Americana and Cartographic Treasures
of the Library of Congress. The images were created from maps and
atlases and, in general, are restricted to items that are not covered
by copyright protection.

Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection
- Over 5,000 online map images from the University of Texas's
Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection. Many of these images are of CIA
maps, but there are a number of historical maps available with an
emphasis on Texas.

Hargrett Library Rare Map Collection
- The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of
Georgia maintains a collection of more than 800 historic maps spanning
nearly 500 years, from the sixteenth century through the early twentieth
century.

2002 Agricultural Atlas of the United States
- National Agricultural Statistics Service, Census Division's Atlas
provides many maps based on the 2002 Agricultural Census data. Topics
include: number of farms, value of land and buildings, farm size, farms
by value of sales, tenure and characteristics of farm operators,
principal occupation of operator, and farms by type of organization.

- Neighborhood Knowledge California allows you create and save maps of
all or part of California showing demographics and housing, economic,
and health indicators.

California Digital Atlas
- This interactive map allows you to create and print maps of California
showing a wide variety of information from environmental hazards to land
ownership to demographics.

American Factfinder Thematic Maps
- The Thematic Maps interface allows you to create and save maps showing
demographic and housing characteristics from the decennial census and the
American Community Survey as well as business and government information
collected by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Historical Census Browser from University of Virginia Library
- This interactive site allows you to retrieve historic decennial census
data from 1790 to 1960. You can retrieve the data in tabular form or
create simple maps that may be printed or saved.

GeoCommunicator
- Bureau of Land Management's National Integrated Land System (NILS)
transaction applications (Survey Management, Measurement Management,
and Parcel Management). GeoCommunicator provides searching, accessing
and dynamic mapping of data for federal land stewardship, land and
mineral use records from BLM's LR2000, and land survey information.

- An interactive map that shows the location of regulated facilities,
monitoring sites, water bodies, flood hazards, population density,

- USGS Natural
Hazards Support System (NHSS)
- The NHSS's interactive viewer maps current/recent earthquakes, wild
fires, hurricanes, volcanoes, and weather warnings.

FEMA's Mapping Information Platform
- This interactive map allows you to create, view, and save maps of
flood hazard areas in the United States.

USDA National Agricultural Statistics Interactive Statistical Map (SVG)
- This interactive mapping program allows you to create simple maps
illustrating the various US agricultural statistics for part or all of the
US by state or county.

California Spatial Information Library (CaSIL) (http://casil.ucdavis.edu/pages/data.html)
- This state government site allows you to download free frequently used
datasets for California, including vector data, DRGs, DOQQS, and other
image data.

Environmental Information Catalog
- An online directory for reporting and discovery of information resources
for California. Participants include cities, counties, utilities, state
and federal agencies, private businesses, and academic institutions that
have spatial and other types of data resources.

- Online maps and downloadable digital layers for the City of Davis.

- U.S. E-Gov initiative to provide access to geospatial data and

US Census Bureau's Cartographic Boundary Files
- Download boundary files that are selected generalized extracts from
the Census Bureau's TIGER geographic database and are designed for use
in a Geographic Information System (GIS) or similar mapping system.

USDA's Geospatial Data Gateway
- Easy access and free download of natural resources data that has been
collected by the USDA. Covers the U.S.

ESRI's Downloadable Data site
- This commercial site has both free and for-fee downloadable files.
- GeoCommunity
- The GIS DataDepot has numerous data holdings that are available for
free download, additional data can be downloaded via a
"Premium" option or written to CD-ROM for a fee.
- The
National Atlas of the United States
- Downloadable map layers from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Most of the map layers were compiled at a scale of 1:2,000,000 and cover
the full geographic extent of the United States of America, although some
cover the conterminous United States only. Some map layers include Puerto
Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

NGA Raster Roam
- Public access to view and download imagery, maps, digital elevation
data and other geographic information. Includes VMAP0 and VMAP1 public
data.
- National
Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), Geospatial Data Clearinghouse
- The Clearinghouse functions as a detailed catalog service with support
for links to spatial data and browse graphics. Participation in the
Clearinghouse includes federal, state, university, and vendor
participants in the United States and abroad.

Gazetteer Online (UC only)
- A database of names, descriptions, and characteristics of over 165,000
places in the world.

GNIS Online Data Base
- Contains almost 2,000,000 geographic features in the United States:
from populated places, schools, reservoirs, and parks to streams, valleys,
springs, and ridges.

GEOnet Names Server
- The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's database of foreign
place names approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (excludes
United States of America and Antarctica).

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names
- Getty Information Institute's database of approximately 1,000,000 names
representing 900,000 places containing continents and nations of the
modern political world as well as historical places, including physical
features and administrative entities such as cities and nations, with an
emphasis on places that are important for art and architecture.

U.S. Gazetteer (U.S. Census Bureau)
- This gazetteer is used to identify places to view with the Tiger Map
Server and obtain census data from the 1990 Census Lookup server. You
can search for places, counties or MCDs by entering the name and state
abbreviation (optional), or 5-digit zip code.

ZIP Code Lookup and Address Information (U.S. Postal Service)
- Locate a specific ZIP Code number, all ZIP Code numbers in a city or
all cities in a ZIP Code.
- Canada's
Official Geographical Names Web Site
- Current, formerly official, and undersea names in Canada as
determined by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. This site is in
English and French.
