State Board of Viticultural Commissioners
The board was created in 1881 by the state legislature to work on the phylloxera problem. In addition the board was charged with the responsibility to collect and disseminate information on grape growing, wine making and related problems facing the California wine industry. The board was disbanded in 1894 and its resources to include its library and remaining publications were transferred to the University of California
Publications of the Board of State Viticultural Commissioners include their Annual Conventions, Annual Reports, Annual Reports of the Chief Executive Officer, and other publications. Other publications include separate works published by the Board as well as translations of works. Of particular interest is:

Statistical information on grape growing and wine making is available from the 1860's on. However until the 1930's information is inconsistently available. Sources include the Wine Institute in San Francisco (for information since the 1930's); the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Statistics(since the 1940's); the California State Agricultural Society (the early years 1860-1900) and the California Department of Agriculture (since the 1930's)

BATF Archive
This archive is the files of the San Francisco office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms relating to the Bond or license of California wineries. The Federal regulatory office responsible for the bonding or licensing of wineries. The time period covered is from mid prohibition to the 1950's and consists of files arranged by winery. The collection consists of 132 boxes of files
